Praise the Lord, who is in the heavens and the earth
(Psalm 148:1-14)

Psalm 148 asks us, "Who worships God?, and "Where do they worship and praise the Lord?" The psalm answers that all people everywhere must worship the Lord, wherever they are, whether from the heavens above, or on the earth below.

1. Praise the Lord from the heavens above
The word of praise, 'Hallelujah,' must be offered to God, regardless of space and time. All angels and heavenly hosts must also praise the Lord. Nothing is greater than the place where praise is lifted to the exceedingly highest God. When the heavens above are full of praise, that praise becomes higher and more beautiful than any other thing. In this psalm, the first part of the five verses appears 9 times. "Only praise the Lord, but not His servants and their work." God deserves all praise.

2. Praise Him from the earth below
If all the angels and heavenly hosts are worshipping the Lord, then all creatures on earth need to worship Him also. Verses 7-12 show us that, not only the creatures but also the lightening, hail, snow, cloud and stormy winds, as well as the mountains, hills, cedars, and even inanimate objects should praise the Lord. And just as nature worships God, all creatures should praise the Lord. However, man's foolishness leads them to worship His creation (Romans 1:22-23). Every human being must worship the Lord, because His name alone is exalted and His splendor is above the heavens and the earth.

3. The Lord receives praise from His people
It is right that all human beings should worship God, but the psalmist realized that they didn't. He acknowledged that only those who had experienced God's salvation could worship Him.
The horn in v. 14 represents strength. When the Israelites were exiled from Egypt, they were weak, but God made them strong. And the Messiah came through Israel. So, just as God had strengthened Israel, God strengthens us. He makes Christians strong through the church and its message, so they can worship Him.

My beloved christians!

For the sake of your heavenly Father and God's glory, do you confess that Jesus is Lord? If so, you must take part with those who rejoice in Jesus' death and resurrection. You must praise Him and serve Him. By finding joy in the Lord and praising Him, I earnestly pray that you will become God's faithful people in the name of Jesus Christ.
