본 시편은 하나님의 도우심이 없으면 모든 것이 허사라고 말씀합니다.
1-2절에는 '헛되다'라는 말이 3번 반복됩니다. 하나님 없이 열심히 애쓰는 모든 것이 얼마나 어리석은 일인지를 강조한 것입니다. 그러므로 '세우는자'마다 하나님을 의뢰하고 그의 은혜를 받아야 합니다.

1. 교회를 세우시는 분은 하나님이시다
1절의 '집'은 한 가정을 말하기도 하지만 성전을 가리키는 말입니다.
교회는 세우고 부흥시키는 영적지도자들의 노고와 수고의 땀이 아닌 여호와께서 세우셔야 합니다. 사도행전에 의하면 주의 손으로 믿는 사람의 수가 더해갔다고 했습니다. 이것은 신비입니다. 결국 교회는 하나님이 복을 주셔야 세워지는 것입니다.

2. 나라를 세우시는 분은 하나님이시다
“여호와께서 성을 지키지 아니하시면 파수꾼의 깨어 있음이 헛되도다”(1절).
국가의 흥망성쇠는 하나님 손에 있습니다. 하나님은 이스라엘 집을 세우시고 그 백성을 지키십니다. 우리는 교회를 위해 기도하듯 나라를 위해 기도해야 합니다.
더글라스 맥아더 장군은 웨스트포인트 육군사관학교에서 최고 훈장을 받고 답사하며 자신은 의무, 자유, 조국을 위해 살았으며 이 모든 것은 하나님의 도우심이었다고 말했습니다.

3. 사업을 세우시는 분은 하나님이시다
“너희가 일찍 일어나고 늦게 누우며 수고의 떡을 먹음이 헛되도다”(2절).
일어나고 눕는 것은 하루의 모든 활동을 가리키는 합성어이며 ', 수고의떡'은 복수형으로 수고가 많다는 뜻입니다. 그러나 하나님이 없이는 많은 노동을 하여도 추수의 기쁨이 없게 됩니다. 여기서 '헛되다'는 목회나 선교나 전도하는 일은 보람되고, 세상일은 헛되다는 이분법적 사고를 말한 것이 아니라 자기 노력으로 모든 것을 할 수 있다는 듯한 태도를 책망한 것입니다. 혼자 애써봐야 헛수고라는 말입니다.

4. 가정을 세우시는 분은 하나님이시다
지금까지 헛되다고 하던 시인은 3절에서 갑자기 '보라'하면서 분위기를 새롭게 한후 5절에서 '그의 화살통에 가득한 자는 복되도다'라고 합니다. 가정을 세우는 자가 복이 있다는 것입니다. 그가 인생을 세운 자요 승리한 자라는 것입니다.
그러나 가정을 세우는 분은 하나님이십니다. 가정도 자식도 마음대로 되지 않습니다. 세상의 많은 부모들이 자식을 돈과 명예와 욕심으로 세우려다 망했습니다.

사랑하는 성도 여러분,
하나님이 함께 하지 아니하시면 우리의 가정도 교회도 국가도 사업도 세울 수 없습니다. 날마다 하나님과 동행하며 승리하시는 저와 여러분이 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 간절히 소원합니다.



Unless the Lord builds the house
(Psalm 127:1-5)

Psalm 127 says, "Unless the Lord helps us, everything is invain." Verses 1-2 repeat this phrase, "in vain," three times. It emphasizes that without God's help, the very fact that they strive to attain their object of desire is expressed by "how foolish they are."
Therefore, every "builder" must rely on the Lord and receive His grace.

1. It is the Lord who builds the church
The "house" in verse 1 indicates the temple, though it can sometimes mean family. Although spiritual leaders work to build and revive the church, their travail and sweat are in vain. Only the Lord can build the church. According to the book of Acts, the number of people who believed by the hand of the Lord increased more and more, which is ultimately a mystery. Therefore, unless the Lord blesses us, we will build the church in vain.

2. It is the Lord who builds the nation
Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain (v.1). The rise and fall of a nation depends on the hand of the Lord. The Lord built the house of Israel and watched over its people. Just as we pray for our church, we also need to pray for our country. When General Douglas MacArthur was conferred with the very best decoration that West Point Military Academy had to offer, he made this formal reply, "I have been living for my duty, freedom, and homeland. I fully give thanks to God for His help."

3. It is the Lord who runs a business
"In vain, you rise up early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat" (v. 2).
'Rising early' and 'staying up late' are compound words which indicate all of our daily activities, and 'toiling for food to eat' is a multiple word expression meaning to make lots of effort. Laboring hard without God's help will lead us not to enjoy the harvest. Therefore, the phrase, 'in vain,' does not emphasize the thought that pastoral duty, missionary work, and evangelism are useful while worldly work is not, but rather the entire attitude that one might exert oneself to do anything without God is unacceptable. It means that unless God helps him, one makes these efforts in vain.

4. It is the Lord who builds a home
The psalmist who had been saying, 'in vain,' up to this point, suddenly says, "Look," in verse 3. So after shifting the discussion in a new direction, he says in verse 5, "Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of arrows." This is the same thing as saying, "Blessed is the man who builds a home." Here is a man who has built his life and who has succeeded in it.
However, we should recognize that the man who has built this home is none other than the Lord. We cannot control our family and our children as we want.
Many parents of this world have tried to build up their children with money, honor, and avarice, but have eventually failed.

Unless the Lord is with us, we cannot build our family, church, country, and business. Every day, as we move along in company with God, I sincerely pray that you and I will succeed in building our life in the name of Jesus Christ.
