본문에서 말하는 핍박과 환난은‘의를 위하여’받는 핍박과 환란을 말합니다. 시인은 하나님의 율법을 따라 사는 자가 받는 축복을 먼저 말하고, 하나님의 율법을 젊을 때부터 따르기 시작했다고 말하며
이제는 하나님 말씀을 따라 사는 자가 받는 핍박과 환난에 대해 말씀합니다.
1. 이제는 의를 위하여 핍박과 환난이 온다
시인은 핍박과 환난을 다음의 네 가지로 말씀합니다.
① 소외됨-예수님께서도‘너희가 세상에 속한 자가 아니므로 세상이 너희를 미워한다’(요15:19-20)고 말씀하십니다.
② 비방-비방은 하나님의 법을 신실하게 지키므로 오는 것입니다.
③ 굴욕 또는 수치-하나님 말씀대로 살겠다는 결심을 할 때 성도는 세상에서 굴욕과 수치를 당하게 될 때가 많습니다.
④ 슬픔-시인은 주님의 도를 따라 행하며 살지만 세상에서는 오히려 거절과 비난을 당하므로 슬퍼합니다.
그러나 성도는 어떠한 경우라도‘주의 말씀대로 나를 세우소서’라고 기도해야 합니다.
2. 하나님의 말씀으로 산다
시인은 하나님 말씀을 연구하고, 그 말씀으로 살기를 원했습니다. 그러나 자력으로 이것을 할 수 없음을 알기에 다음과 같은 기도를 합니다.
① 내 눈을 여소서(18-19절)
② 주의 율례들을 내게 가르치소서(26절)
③ 나에게 주의 법도들의 길을 깨닫게 하소서(27절)
④ 거짓 행위를 내게서 떠나게 하소서(29절)
3. 경주자로 달려라
하나님은 우리의 선생님이시지만 무엇보다 우리가 말씀을 사모하고, 묵상하고, 즐거워해야 합니다. 시인은 3가지 동사를 통해 경건하게 살려면 바로 선택하고, 바
로 잡고, 달려가라고 합니다.
① 우리는 바른 길을 선택해야 한다(30절
② 우리는 하나님의 증거들에 매달려야 한다(31절)
③ 우리는 목적지를 향해 달려가야 한다(32절)
사랑하는 성도 여러분,
예비 된 면류관을 위하여 선한 싸움을 싸우고, 달려갈 길을 마치고, 믿음을 지켰다고 고백한 사도 바울처럼 주의 나타나심을 사모하며 의를 위하여 당하는 핍박과
환난을 두려워하지 말고 하나님 말씀대로 사시는 하나님의 신실한 백성들이 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 간절히 소원합니다.
God’s word delivers from persecution and affliction
(Psalm 119:17-32)
The persecution and affliction of this psalm refer to Christians who are persecuted and afflicted“ for righteousness.”The psalmist explains that God’s blessings are for those who live in accordance with God’s law. Then, he describes how they had started to follow
God’s law in their youth, but now face persecution and affliction.
1. Our present persecutions and afflictions come to us because of righteousnes.
The psalmist characterizes persecution and affliction in four points:
① Alienation - Jesus says,“ As you do not belong to the world, the world hates you.”(John 15:19-20)
② Slander - Slander is given in response to our zeal for God and His law.
③ Insult or shame - When Christians decide to live according to God’s word, they may have occasions when they are insulted or put to shame.
④ Sorrow - The psalmist acts and lives in accordance with God’s law, but he is sorrowful because he has been refused by the world and wrongfully blamed.
In every case, we as Christians must pray,“ Keep me true to Your word.”
2. Live according to God’s word!
The psalmist studied God’s word and wanted to live according to it.
However, because he knew that he could not fulfill God’s purpose for himself,
he prayed in the following way:
① Open my eyes (vv. 18-19)!
② Teach me Your decrees (v. 26)!
③ Let me understand the teaching of Your precepts (v. 27)!
④ Keep me from deceitful ways (v. 29)!
3. Pursue His words aggressively!
God is our teacher. Therefore, we must love and respect Him, as well as meditate and enjoy His word.
To live a life of devotion, we must follow His word with three verbs.
① We must choose the way of truth correctly (v. 30).
② We must hold fast to His statutes (v. 31).
③ We must run in the path of His commands (v. 32).
My beloved congregation!
The Apostle Paul confessed that he had fought the good fight, run the race in the path of His commands, and kept the faith for the crown prepared for him.
Just as he yearned for Jesus’coming, not being afraid of persecution and affliction because of his righteousness, and living in accordance with God’s word, I sincerely pray that all of us will be God’s faithful people in the name of Jesus Christ!
